DZMM, ABS-CBN’s flagship AM radio station, continues to revolutionize its delivery of news with the launch of the noontime national newscast “Headline Pilipinas” on Monday (October 10), 12:30pm, that will air exclusively on DZMM TeleRadyo on cable and ABS-CBNTVplus.

It means that we need to help find solutions to the problems that we discuss on air,” Katigbak said, after highlighting DZMM’s many public service programs, including the Teaching Learning Caring (TLC) classroom and clinic-on-wheels that served victims of calamities in the past years.

Claire Castro, Maresciel Yao, Toni Aquino, Jasmin Romero, Neil Badion, DJ Chacha, DJ Bea, Gretchen Fullido, at Ahwel Paz.

DZMM TeleRadyo turns 10

JULIUS AND BERNADETTE, BRING JOY AND PUBLIC SERVICE

IN FIRST “DZMM KAPAMILYA DAY”

Hope and joy filled a covered court in Barangay Sta. Ana, Pateros where DZMM, the flagship AM radio station of ABS-CBN, recently held the first “DZMM Kapamilya Day,” in celebration of DZMM TeleRadyo’s 10th year on television this 2017.

In the first leg, Julius Babao and Bernadette Sembrano brought their “Lingkod Kapamilya sa DZMM” program on location, enabling residents to ask for help and assistance through the show. Before going live on-air, they were also able to bond with the people, who enjoyed the livelihood seminar and birthday blowout prepared by DZMM.

As an added offering, DZMM also had a medical mission for its first Kapamilya Day, and one of those who received free medicines and medical consultation was Myrna Alire, a diabetic mother with a mild heart condition. Aside from the free check-up she received, she was also grateful for the chance to see and meet the anchors she would only watch on TV or hear on the radio.

“I’m just really so happy! Especially when I got the chance to hug Bernadette, I’m just very thankful that ABS-CBN was able to come here, and I was able to get free medicine,” Nanay Myrna shared.

Around 200 people lined up for the medical mission that was done in partnership with volunteer doctors from Sagip Bayan-St. Luke’s Medical Center. Others, meanwhile, were also able to get free wheelchairs and nebulizers. People also learned a new source of income after attending the seminar on tocino-making. To complete the family day experience, those celebrating their birthdays like DZMM TeleRadyo were also given gifts.

Pateros mayor Miguel Ponce III and Barangay Captain Benny Santinidad expressed their gratitude to DZMM for choosing Sta. Ana as the first stop of the “DZMM Kapamilya Day.”

“This is very important because many Kapamilyas got assistance and we were able to give solutions immediately,” Santinidad said.

Radyo Patrol reporter Raya Capulong and “Mismo” anchor Ahwel Paz were also present to give news and entertainment to the people of Pateros. DZMM, which just celebrated 30 years on-air last year, will continue its delivery of news and public service to the barangays on the next legs of “DZMM Kapamilya Day.” This Friday (March 17), Gerry Baja and Anthony Taberna of “Dos Por Dos” will be visiting Pasay City.

Watch out for the next “DZMM Kapamilya Day” in the coming Fridays as DZMM continues its celebration of 10 years of DZMM TeleRadyo. Stay tuned to DZMM 630 on AM radio or DZMM TeleRadyo on cable and ABS-CBNTVplus. For follow @DZMMTeleRadyo on Facebook and Twitter.

DZMM ANCHORS DELIVER KAPAMILYA BRAND OF PUBLIC SERVICE TO COMMUNITIES

As he would every weekday, broadcast journalist Ted Failon reported for boardwork ‪at 8am last March 31 for his program “Failon Ngayon” on DZMM radio and TeleRadyo. The only – and big – difference in his routine that day was he and co-anchor DJ Chacha were not delivering and discussing the morning’s biggest news and issues inside a radio booth. Instead, they are in the heart of Brgy. San Dionisio in Parañaque City, face-to-face with the station’s loyal listeners and viewers in the community.

Ted and Chacha were there for the fourth leg of “DZMM Kapamilya Day,” the AM radio station’s latest offering that will tour different barangays in Metro and Mega Manila to bring joy and public service to Filipinos in celebration of the 10th year of DZMM TeleRadyo on television.

Julius Babao and Bernadette Sembrano’s “Lingkod Kapamilya sa DZMM” kicked-off the caravan last March 10 at Barangay Sta. Ana, Pateros, whose residents were able to air their concerns, and benefited from DZMM TLC’s medical mission.

A major part of “DZMM Kapamilya Day” is to bring a DZMM program to a barangay and air it live via satellite. This allows the anchors to bond and interact with more Kapamilyas, and focus on the specific concerns in their communities.

“Dos Por Dos” partners Anthony Taberna and Gerry Baja gamely listened to sentiments of residents at Brgy. 162, Pasay City over chichirya in front of a local sari-sari store last March 17. Meanwhile, in the event’s third leg at Brgy. Molino 2, Bacoor, Cavite last March 24, “Pasada Sais Trenta” anchors Karen Davila and Vic Lima tackled the traffic problems of the province, and helped provide immediate solutions by organizing a sit-down between the local government, the Cavite Road Safety Division, and local PUV drivers.

DZMM’s bonding with the people would continue off the air, as it conducted a special program in every community with Zumba sessions and parlor games led by “Mismo” anchor Ahwel Paz. Moreover, various public service activities were held like medical mission and livelihood seminars. To add excitement, residents celebrating birthdays were given a special treat and raffle prizes were drawn.

“Importante na makita natin sila at malaman ang problema nila at malaman nila na mahal natin sila,” according to Karen Davila.

DZMM will continue bringing the Kapamilya brand of genuine public service and heartfelt ‘malasakit’ to Filipinos with “DZMM Kapamilya Day” heading to more barangays until June.

For news and public service, stay tuned to DZMM 630 on AM radio or DZMM TeleRadyo on cable TV and ABS-CBN TVplus. For updates, follow @DZMMTeleRadyo on Twitter and Facebook.

The Philippines’ all-time favorite search for outstanding amateur talent Tawag ng Tanghalan sa “It’s Showtime” goes global

$

The Top 10 contestants (in no particular order) vying for chance to be part of the global representatives to the grand showdown at Tawag ng Tanghalan sa “It’s Showtime” this December 2017.

From an iconic singing competition that became the staple of every Philippine household’s afternoon radio listening and eventually TV viewing for nearly two decades since 1953, “Tawag ng Tanghalan (Call of the Stage)” continues its symphony as the Philippines’ all-time favorite search for outstanding amateur talent, to date.  As the latest revival at top-rating variety show “It’s Showtime” continues the tradition of providing the platform for singers with nary a professional exposure but with a gamut of talent, ABS-CBN and The Filipino Channel (TFC) take it even further as they bring the tour de force that is Tawag ng Tangalan globally.

After a good turnout of Filipino amateur singers who could very well be professional performers themselves, at the launches in June in North America, Asia and Europe, anticipation is high this quarter as the region finals begin, starting in Europe this September 17 at the Halle E + G MuseumsQuartier, Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Wien, Austria.

In mid-September, ABS-CBN, TFC and DZMM’s Global Pinoy Singing Idol, will pit the best of the best from the continent — performers who garnered the highest judges’ scores and online votes:

  • Bernardite Steiger is a Filipina married to an Austrian in Wien who once dreamt of becoming a famous singer but first parked her dream to help her family and then to raise her own, next. Now, she is taking chances to fulfill her dream once again
  • Louise Denciv Auman was born and raised in Wien, Austria. Before joining Global Tawag ng Tanghalan, she had been in fact, a youtuber who had her own channel of uploads.  She has then become inactive because of work.  Now with Global Tawag ng Tanghalan it seems that she is up for a revival.
  • Austrian born and raised Annabel Hernandez had also been part of the Austrian music industry even before joining but had to postpone for her studies. Now she returns to try to make her mark once again.
  • Fellow Austrian-born Rinnalyn Silang’s entry into Tawag ng Tanghalan is accidental. Originally just a companion of friend who vied for a slot, she went on to shine on her own.  Now, she is continuing the battle to win for her friend.
  • Geraldine Marsak-Lopez of Vienna, Austria has a unique story to tell. Her left thyroid had been removed and there continues a chance for her to lose her voice. So, before she possibly loses it, she sent her video to Global Tawag ng Tanghalan and the rest, they say is history.
  • Paris, France-based Marnelli Oliva was originally from Bulacan in Luzon Philippines.  Her voice is as sweet as the delights for which her province is known.  She is set to prove she is a talent to reckon, proud to represent her province and to dedicate her performance to her mother.
  • Alexandra Yatco of Varby Gard, Sweden is perhaps the youngest in the group but she can prove that age is not a deterrent to one’s pursuit of talent. In fact, she was also beset with health problems that forced her to stop schooling. However, she is proud to have turned her time off from school into an opportunity to learn the guitar.
  • Marlita Schon of Stockhom, Sweden has a unique motivation for joining — to be able to help poor children in her community. If she wins the Region Finals, she hopes to use the prizes for her MSJ Foundation.
  • Joy Bautista of Madrid, Spain was a teacher before she first set foot in Europe as an au pair (defined by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas as a young, unmarried Filipino without children who is placed under a cultural exchange arrangement with a European host family for a maximum period of time).  Driven by her sister, she pursued a life in Spain.  Wherever life takes her, she brings her music everywhere she goes, even at church.
  • Arnold Soria of Madrid, Spain is adopted and was raised by his aunt and uncle like he was their own. Soria draws emotion from this and his experience as an overseas Filipino in his songs which he offers for people he considers his family in the Philippines.

Known for the Filipino wealth in talent and this line-up, both judges and voters will face the toughest challenge yet — identify who will be the first Global Tawag ng Tanghalan representatives from Europe.

These contestants face the challenge of becoming the first global representative and the second grand champion following the footsteps of Tawag ng Tanghalan greats that include Superstar Nora Aunor, Perry Como of the Philippines Diomedes Maturan and director Bobot Mortiz.

Judges include ABS-CBN Integrated News Head Ging Reyes; Toolstation Chief Finance Officer Alfonso Pinto and ABS-CBN Europe Ltd. Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Luis Bariuan.

Two winners will be declared winners and will flown in to represent Europe and compete with other regional finalists in the global showdown happening at the “It’s Showtime” studios in Manila on December 2017.

Get to know new “Red Alert” anchor Jeff Canoy

$
0
0

With ten years of experience covering crime, disasters, and armed conflicts, ABS-CBN journalist Jeff Canoy fits in perfectly as the new anchor of the three-year old ABS-CBN current affairs program “Red Alert.”

In the past weeks, we finally got to see him dive into his new mission of promoting public safety and emergency-preparedness to Filipinos as he tackled timely issues of flashfloods, hazing, and gun-related violence.

Now that we will be seeing him more often (“Red Alert” airs every Wednesday after “Bandila”) let’s get to know him better.

Here are seven fun facts about new “Red Alert” anchor Jeff Canoy:

1)   He is a Blue Eagle

Jeff was an AB Communication major at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Jeff Canoy took up AB Communication at the Ateneo de Manila University. Up to this day, he still cherishes the values he learned from Ateneo. Proof? His greatest goal in life other than to be a good journalist is to be a better man for others, very much in tune with Ateneo’s teachings as well as with ABS-CBN’s mission and vision to be in the service of the Filipino.

2) He co-founded an independent student paper

Jeff was part of Ateneo’s The Guidon before starting an independent student newspaper with his friends. (The Guidon Editorial Team. Photo from Jeff Canoy’s FB page)

Before learning how to report and write, Jeff was first into graphics design. He joined “The Guidon,” the official student newspaper of the Ateneo, as one of the layout crew. A year later, he got together with other student journalists who wanted to do more for reportage on campus. They started their own publication, KATIPUNAN magazine, where they did some solid reporting on issues beyond campus while raising funds on the side for the printing of the newspaper.

  1. He is a travel nut

Jeff has been to over 27 countries.

Being a journalist has brought Jeff to places for out-of-town coverage but he rarely gets to look around because of his work. Hence, he goes on his own adventures where he does not have to think about news. Jeff has gone to over 27 countries all over the world. His favorite destination so far? Israel, because of the powerful experience he had in the capital city of Jerusalem. Craziest thing done while on vacation? He said, he once swam with elephants while on vacation in Laos.

  1. He was an ABS-CBN News intern

Jeff was an ABS-CBN News intern back in 2006.

Jeff started out as an intern for ABS-CBN back in 2006 and was assigned to be at the news desk to do usual OJT stuff like photocopying documents and filing press releases from different agencies. Things drastically changed when one of the bosses then told him to shadow reporters on the field to get a real sense of what they do. One of the reporters was the legendary Gus Abelgas.

  1. He always had an affinity for disaster coverage

Jeff finds covering disasters a chance to help people get their stories heard.

Jeff said covering disasters both excites him and satisfies his desire to help. “There’s something about being on the ground, talking to the people affected by disasters and making sure that you do right by them by producing a piece that truthfully captures their narrative. In that moment, you’re more that just a reporter of events. You’re a witness to the stories of these people. They trusted you with their voice. You have to make sure that the story you write reflects what they feel, what they need and what the rest of the country can do to help them,” he said.

  1. The song “Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko!” once made him cry

An ABS-CBN Christmas theme song once made him cry.

In 2011, during the aftermath of Bagyong Sendong, Jeff spent his first Christmas away from his family and friends in an evacuation center in Iligan. He recalled that when someone suddenly played the popular ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID theme, the evacuees started gathering together and singing the song in unison. Jeff and his crew could not stop tears from falling as they witness that special moment during a very depressing time.

  1. He has gone through many “Red Alert” moments

Jeff has experienced many red alert moments at work.

Jeff said he was carried away by strong winds and flashfloods before during a coverage. He has experienced running away from an erupting volcano. He had to stay in a safe house because of death threats. And more recently in Marawi, they almost got hit when enemies opened fire on the building they were staying in. Jeff said reporters have the tendency to feel a false sense of invincibility on the field. But he credits the training given to them by ABS-CBN on what to do in in hostile environments and dangerous situations. “Parati naming baon ‘yung mantra na no story is worth dying for. We always hope for the best. But it’s also important that we prepare for the worst,” he said.

Catch Jeff Canoy, who was recently named “Most Trusted Field Reporter” at the Eastern Visayas State University-Ormoc’s 3rd Students’ Choice Mass Media Awards on “Red Alert” every Wednesday, 9:30pm on DZMM TeleRadyo and after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN HD. Noli De Castro back with more “kababalaghan” stories this Halloween

Halloween is not complete without veteran broadcaster Noli De Castro’s “Kababalaghan” TV special and this year, “Kabayan” promises four stories that will bring friends and families together for a good scare this Sunday afternoon (October 29) after “Banana Sundae” and once again after “Gandang Gabi Vice” on ABS-CBN.

The first story involves veteran TV host Cory Quirino, who experience being haunted by a spirit living inside an antique Bu-lul fertility idol that her then husband brought to their home. She and their househelp started to feel eerie around the house until a dark and creepy creature finally appeared before them and spoke to them.

The second story is about a woman who practiced witchcraft and was possessed by many demons. She was able to hide her identity and even served as a choir member, until a priest came to visit their church and felt that an evil presence is entering her again. This led to the woman revealing her past where she admitted to have hurt and killed many people using her powers.

In the third story, “Kabayan” will take us to the old Clark Air Base hospital, which has been a popular destination for ghost-hunting. Built in the ‘60s, the facility treated wounded American soldiers who fought in the Vietnam war. Up to this day, the spirits of those who did not make it continue to haunt the abandoned hospital.

To wrap up this year’s “Kababalaghan” special, “Kabayan” will also visit the old house in Sta. Mesa, Manila where lost souls are said to be staying. The family renting the worn down house said they have experienced many scary instances that prove they are not alone in their home. Even the neighbors have attested to seeing ghosts and even elementals in the building beside the haunted house.

Find out the stories behind the scary experiences of these Kapamilyas and witness what action was done to bring back peace in their lives on Noli De Castro’s “Kababalaghan” special this Sunday afternoon (October 29) after “Banana Sundae” and once again after “Gandang Gabi Vice” on ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN HD. Watch online via iwantv.com.ph or skyondemand.com.ph.

DZMM, UKG, and TV Patrol celebrate milestones with overseas Filipinos in Canada

Candice Santos and Shaira Garrido bested other talented Filipino singers in Canada to advance to the GPSI grand finals.

DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, “Umagang Kay Ganda,” (UKG) and “TV Patrol” (TVP) put on a show for overseas Filipinos in Ontario, Canada last November 18 in celebration of DZMM TeleRadyo and UKG’s 10th anniversary and 30 years of TVP.

Dubbed as “Gabi ng Pasasalamat: A Thanksgiving Show” the event featured iconic DZMM and TVP anchor Noli “Kabayan” De Castro, UKG anchor Winnie Cordero, DZMM anchor Ahwel Paz, TFC Adobo Nation anchor Ginger Conejero, Queen of Soul Jaya, and Kapamilya actor Xian Lim.

It also showcased the wit, heart, and talent of Filipinos abroad with the contenders in UKG’s “Nanay Kong Kay Ganda” and DZMM’s “Global Pinoy Singing Idol” (GPSI) taking the stage. “Nanay Kong Kay Ganda” is UKG’s search for outstanding Filipino mothers, which will also go to Hong Kong this month. GPSI, meanwhile, is DZMM’s long-running talent show for overseas Filipinos that will have its grand finals in February 2018.

DZMM station manager Marah Capuyan shared that the show, which is a collaboration between ABS-CBN News and TFC, the Filipino Channel, received a very warm reception from Filipinos abroad, some of them even coming from outside Ontario.

“We are very happy to be able to celebrate these major milestones with our Kapamilyas overseas. The fact that they took time – and for some traveled far – to be with us, warms our heart and inspires us even more to deliver to them news and public service through DZMM, UKG, TV Patrol, and other ABS-CBN News platforms,” she said.

Meanwhile, here in the Philippines, DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 continues to top the Metro Manila AM radio survey according to Kantar Media. In its survey conducted last September 22 to 28, DZMM garnered an audience share of 31%, well ahead of DZBB Super Radyo with 21% and DZXL RMN Manila with 18%.

The result shows that more Filipinos continue tune in to DZMM for news and information. However, aside from being first when it comes in news, DZMM also continues to be first in public service with its various programs and projects for the benefit of Filipinos.

Recently, the program “Dr. Love” of anchor Bro. Jun Banaag celebrated its 20th anniversary by giving free haircuts, check-ups, and eyeglasses to senior citizens at the Manila Boystown Complex in Marikina City. This December, DZMM’s award-winning TLC (Teaching, Learning, Caring) mobile clinic and classroom will also be going to the Quezon province, while its “Maligayang Paslit” gift-giving activity for children will be held in Enchanted Kingdom.

Stay tuned for more news and public service updates by listening to DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 on AM radio or via audio streaming at dzmm.com.ph, by watching DZMM TeleRadyo on cable or ABS-CBN TVplus, or following @DZMMTeleRadyo on Facebook and Twitter.

Jeff Canoy brings more stories of survival from Marawi on “Red Alert”

Another pair of Marawi survivors will share their stories of struggle and hope in the second part of “Red Alert’s” Marawi special airing this Wednesday (December 6) after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

Jeff Canoy meets Saripada Pacasum Jr., who witnessed unity and compassion during the bloody war. Saripada shared how the lack of electricity and severed communication lines made it even difficult to save trapped residents as terrorists and the military exchanged gunfire. Add to that the shortage on food, water, and shelter for civilians.

One of those caught in the battle area was PO1 Lumna Lidasan, who served as the beacon of courage and hope for five other policemen he was with during the crossfire.

Meanwhile, while the war has ended, danger remains for the people of Marawi with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) left behind by terrorists in the city. While our soldiers are already doing clearing operations, civilians should know how to keep themselves and their families safe from these devices.

Gain knowledge and courage in the face of danger as we relive the stories of Marawi with Jeff Canoy on “Red Alert” this Wednesday (December 6) at 9:30pm on DZMM TeleRadyo, and after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN HD. Watch online  via iwant.com.ph or skyondemand.com.ph. For updates, follow the program on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RedAlertABSCBN or on Twitter: @ABSCBNRedAlert.

Jeff Canoy gets to know more stories of struggle and hope in the second part of the Marawi special.

Upcoming comedienne Donna Cariaga takes a serious turn as she reflects on the big changes in her life in “Tapatan ni Tunying” this Friday (January 5).

After winning in the “Funny One” segment of “It’s Showtime,” Donna said the last months have been hectic for her as opportunities, fame, and projects came storming in. While she now has few days to rest because of her work, the proud mother said she is more than thankful for the changes in her life.

“We are planning to invest to prepare for our baby’s education. We don’t know how long this lucky break given to me will last so we need to invest what we have now so it doesn’t go to waste,” she said of her plans.

She also shared that she is willing to go outside her comfort zone of comedy, if given the opportunity.

“If ever there I will be given roles in other genres, I will still accept them. Right now, I am willing to accept any offers,” she said.

Just like Donna, transgender beauty pageant patron Jennifer Collins is also experiencing big changes in her life. The former “It’s Showtime” Miss Q&A contestant lost her leg after being involved in a vehicular accident in August last year.

With her disability, she can no longer travel around Luzon as easily to work on pageants, where she would do make up, dress up contestants, train people, and even join the pageants herself, to help her family financially. Yet, she remains hopeful and positive.

“I can now stand and use a walker which is good. Many cannot believe how fast I have recovered in just four months. Perhaps I can thank my positivity for it,” she told Anthony.

Get to know Donna and Jennifer and be inspired by how they embraced the changes in their lives with an open mind and open heart this Friday (January 5) with Anthony Taberna on “Tapatan ni Tunying” at 9:30pm on DZMM TeleRadyo and after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.
